How many times can one get out of the tow vehicle to go take a look at how much space there is to further back up the trailer? Or to properly align the hitch with the tongue of the trailer?
Having a backup camera to make it easier to hitch the trailer was my first objective, but my second one was to add a second camera to the back of my trailer, so that I could see what was behind it when backing up. That or relying on your other half, which one do you think is easier?! Well, let's just say I have way more control on adding a camera to my rig than on the way my spouse provides "fairly" clear instructions when I am backing up. Enough said!
I have made a thorough video detailing how I did the mod and the installation, using network cable (Cat5) to relay the video signals and the power as well. I recycled an old dvd player as a screen as well.
That was in 2012. Now, I am upgrading my setup with a better camera, and also a mirror with a built in screen, so that I don't have to have the bulky dvd player on the dash at all times.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Backup camera with IR leds for night vision |
I ordered and received this monster of a camera. I choose a model that I could adjust the tilt and that also would provide night vision in case I have to using it at night.
My initial tests inside have demonstrated a good quality image.
The mirror that I got allows for two input to be connected, so that I could monitor what the kids are watching on the TV at the back (yes! I did install a 22inc tv attached in between the headrest. I will provide a full post and details on that one later)
Both items were ordered from the same site and were fairly cheap. I know quality is not guaranteed but the price was right.
I am planning on installing them both the minute the temperature outside allows it.
Stay tuned!!
